As the incoming President of an organization you should lay your cards on the table

As the incoming President of an organization you should lay your cards on the table. In other words your speech should say what you intend doing during your term of office. Obviously you should be gracious and mention the stalwart work of your predecessor. You may say that you will base your work on his or her success. However every President has a different approach and you should explain what yours will be.

There may be a particular aspect of the organisation that you think needs improving. There may be organizational changes you believe should be implemented. It’s possible that you intend setting up a sub-committee to explore new possibilities. Whatever you intend doing your speech should be enthusiastic in tone. It should speak of challenges ahead but it should also mention the opportunities.

The speech of an incoming officer should sell the work that is being done and say “Next year we can do even better”.

Speak of your organisation or club and give a vision for its future. Your speech should motivate and inspire so that that vision can be realised. It’s all about leadership and that is up to you!
